~* Σχέδιο για τα ευρωομόλογα από Γιούνκερ-Τρεμόντι

~** Η ασπιρίνη προλαμβάνει την εμφάνιση πολλών μορφών καρκίνου;

Όπως ανακοίνωσαν σήμερα επιστήμονες, η λήψη μικρής ποσότητας ασπιρίνης μπορεί να μειώσει τον κίνδυνο εμφάνισης πολλών μορφών καρκίνου. Στη μελέτη, που βασίστηκε σε οκτώ κλινικές δοκιμές, στις οποίες συμμετείχαν 25.570 ασθενείς, οι ερευνητές διαπίστωσαν ότι οι θάνατοι από καρκίνο, μεταξύ εκείνων που λάμβαναν ασπιρίνη σε μικρές δόσεις, δηλαδή μέχρι και 75mg την ημέρα, ήταν κατά 21% λιγότεροι στη διάρκεια των ερευνών και κατά 34% μετά από πέντε χρόνια.Η ασπιρίνη εμφανίστηκε να προστατεύει τον ανθρώπινο οργανισμό κυρίως από τον καρκίνο του γαστρεντερικού, με τα ποσοστά των θανάτων που καταγράφηκαν από αυτή τη μορφή καρκίνου να είναι περίπου 54% χαμηλότερα μετά από πέντε χρόνια μεταξύ εκείνων που έπαιρναν ασπιρίνη σε σχέση με εκείνους που δεν λάμβαναν.
Η έρευνα αυτή αναμένεται να διχάσει την επιστημονική κοινότητα, καθώς η ασπιρίνη έχει κατηγορηθεί ότι αυξάνει τον κίνδυνο γαστρορραγίας.
Πάντως, ο Πίτερ Ρόθγουελ του βρετανικού πανεπιστημίου της Οξφόρδης δήλωσε ότι, ενώ η λήψη ασπιρίνης ενέχει μικρό κίνδυνο γαστρορραγίας, αυτός ο κίνδυνος ουσιαστικά «εξαφανίζεται» από τα οφέλη της στη μείωση του κινδύνου για καρκίνο και εμφράγματα.Η ασπιρίνη, που αρχικά παρασκευάστηκε από την Bayer, είναι ένα φθηνό φάρμακο που διατίθεται εύκολα και χρησιμοποιείται ως αναλγητικό και αντιπυρετικό.Παλαιότερες μελέτες διαπίστωσαν ότι η λήψη ασπιρίνης δύναται να μειώσει τον κίνδυνο εμφάνισης καρκίνου του παχέος εντέρου, καθώς η χρήση της μπλοκάρει το ένζυμο κυκλοοξυγενάση 2, το οποίο ευνοεί τη φλεγμονή και τη διάσπαση των κυττάρων και συναντάται σε υψηλά επίπεδα στους όγκους.Ο Πίτερ Έλγουντ, ειδικός στην ασπιρίνη, από την ιατρική σχολή του Πανεπιστημίου του Κάρντιφ, ο οποίος δεν μετείχε στην έρευνα, περιέγραψε το εν λόγω φάρμακο ως «εξαιρετικό».
Η έρευνα δημοσιεύτηκε στην επιθεώρηση «Lancet».-

~** Νέο φάρμακο για την εξωσωματική γονιμοποίηση
Στα μέσα του 2011 πρόκειται να κυκλοφορήσει ένα νέο φάρμακο που θα κάνει πιο φιλική τη θεραπεία στην οποία υποβάλλονται οι γυναίκες που επιθυμούν να τεκνοποιήσουν με εξωσωματική γονιμοποίηση. Πρόκειται για την ορμόνη FSH, η οποία θα χορηγείται μία φορά σε ενέσιμη μορφή και η δράση της θα διαρκεί επτά ημέρες. Σήμερα η ορμόνη αυτή χορηγείται καθημερινά για διάστημα 8-10 ημερών προκειμένου να επιτευχθεί διέγερση των ωοθηκών ώστε να παράγουν τον επαρκή αριθμό ωαρίων που απαιτούνται για την εξωσωματική γονιμοποίηση.
Σύμφωνα με τους επιστήμονες, το νέο φάρμακο, έχει δράση 7 ημερών και έτσι η γυναίκα δεν θα χρειάζεται να κάνει καθημερινά ενέσεις. Οι μελέτες έχουν δείξει ότι στο 30% των περιπτώσεων μία ένεση του νέου φαρμάκου αρκεί για τη διέγερση των ωοθηκών, ενώ στις υπόλοιπες περιπτώσεις μπορεί να χρειαστεί να γίνουν 1-2 ενέσεις επιπλέον ώστε να επιτευχθεί ωορρηξία. Έτσι η θεραπεία θα είναι πιο φιλική για τη γυναίκα που υποβάλλεται σε θεραπεία για εξωσωματική γονιμοποίηση.-

~** Γκότζι: Ένα «θαυματουργό» ασιατικό φρούτο
Τα γκότζι (goji) είναι θρεπτικά φρούτα που παράγονται στη περιοχή του Θιβέτ. Δεν βρίσκονται σχεδόν ποτέ φρέσκα, εκτός από τις περιοχές παραγωγής τους, και συνήθως πωλούνται σε ανοιχτά κουτιά και μικρές συσκευασίες, σε ξηρά μορφή.
Τα θρεπτικά αυτά φρούτα θεωρούνται ως μια από τις πλουσιότερες φυσικές πηγές θρεπτικών συστατικών. Περιέχουν βήτα-Καροτίνη, βιταμίνη C, βιταμίνη Β1 και Β2, καθώς και μια σειρά άλλων βιταμινών, μεταλλικά στοιχεία, αντιοξειδωτικά και αμινοξέα. Παράλληλα, τα γκότζι περιέχουν πολλούς υδατάνθρακες, πρωτεΐνες, λιπαρά και διατροφικές ίνες απαραίτητα για το σώμα.
Κινεζικές μελέτες δείχνουν ότι αναστέλλουν ορισμένες από τις γονιδιακές μεταλλάξεις που οδηγούν σε καρκίνο, ενώ ο καρπός τους έχει αντικαρκινικές και ανοσοτονωτικές ιδιότητες.
Επιπλέον, μπορούν να βοηθήσουν τον οργανισμό με τις παρενέργειες της χημειοθεραπείας ή θεραπείας με ακτινοβολία για τον καρκίνο. Τα γκότζι περιέχουν και γερμάνιο, ένα ορυκτό που θεωρείται ότι έχει αντικαρκινικές ιδιότητες.
Τα ασιατικά αυτά φρούτα έχουν την ικανότητα να καταπολεμήσουν τους δύο βασικούς παράγοντες που προάγουν τις καρδιακές παθήσεις, την οξειδωμένη χοληστερόλη και αυξημένη αρτηριακή πίεση.
Επίσης, εκτιμάται ότι εμπλουτίζουν το αίμα με θρεπτικά συστατικά και προάγουν την κυκλοφορία του, και αποτελούν εξαιρετικό βοήθημα στη διατήρηση της καλής όρασης και στη βελτίωσή της.
Τα γκότζι μπορεί να καταναλωθούν σε καθημερινή βάση, προσφέροντας γενική ευεξία.-

~** Η συμπεριφορά των παντρεμένων ανδρών είναι… καλύτερη
Νέα αμερικανική επιστημονική έρευνα έρχεται να επιβεβαιώσει την αντίληψη, ότι οι παντρεμένοι άνδρες τείνουν να έχουν λιγότερες παραβατικές και αντικοινωνικές συμπεριφορές από τους ανύπαντρους. Οι ερευνητές, υπό την καθηγήτρια ψυχολογίας Αλεξάντρα Μπαρτ του πολιτειακού Πανεπιστημίου του Μίσιγκαν, που δημοσίευσαν τη σχετική μελέτη στο περιοδικό ψυχιατρικής «Archives of General Psychiatry» του Αμερικανικού Ιατρικού Συλλόγου, διαπίστωσαν ότι αφενός οι λιγότερο αντικοινωνικοί άνδρες είναι πιθανότερο να παντρευτούν μέχρι τα 30 τους σε σχέση με τους περισσότερο αντικοινωνικούς, και αφετέρου, από τη στιγμή που παντρεύονται, ο γάμος «φρενάρει» κάθε αντικοινωνική τους συμπεριφορά.Επίσης, όσο πιο πετυχημένος είναι ένας γάμος, τόσο πιο μεγάλη φαίνεται να είναι η επίδραση στη βελτίωση της συμπεριφοράς ενός άνδρα (λιγότερη τάση για παραβατικότητα-εγκληματικότητα, λιγότερα ψέματα, λιγότερη επιθετικότητα, λιγότερη κατανάλωση αλκοόλ και ξενύχτια, περισσότερες τύψεις για κάποια κακή συμπεριφορά κ.α.). Σύμφωνα με τους ερευνητές, οι παντρεμένοι συνειδητοποιούν ότι «έχουν πλέον περισσότερα να χάσουν», εάν συνεχίσουν την παλιά αντικοινωνική συμπεριφορά τους. Η μελέτη είναι η πρώτη που εστίασε στις συνέπειες του γάμου στην αντικοινωνική συμπεριφορά, αξιοποιώντας δείγματα γενετικού υλικού από διδύμους, προκειμένου να απομονώσει τυχόν επίδραση των γονιδίων στη συμπεριφορά των ατόμων. Οι ερευνητές επί 12 χρόνια εξέτασαν δεδομένα από 289 ζεύγη διδύμων ανδρών σε διάφορες χρονικές περιόδους.Δεν είναι σαφές αν κάτι ανάλογο συμβαίνει στις γυναίκες, όπως είπε η Μπαρτ, καθώς αυτές είναι λιγότερο πιθανό να έχουν αντικοινωνικές συμπεριφορές. Προηγούμενες έρευνες έχουν συμπεράνει ότι οι παντρεμένοι έχουν κι άλλα συγκριτικά πλεονεκτήματα σε σχέση με τους ανύπαντρους, όπως καλύτερη υγεία, μακροβιότερη ζωή, λιγότερη κατάθλιψη κ.α..-

~** Χημικά εγκαύματα στο μάτι
Σταγόνες χημικών στο μάτι μπορεί να καταστρέψουν την επιφάνεια του ματιού, με αποτέλεσμα να προκαλέσουν ουλές ή ακόμα και τύφλωση.Διάγνωση* Έντονος πόνος στο μάτι* Ανικανότητα του πάσχοντος να ανοίξει το τραυματισμένο μάτι* Ερύθημα και οίδημα* Δακρύρροια Αντιμετώπιση* Κρατήστε το τραυματισμένο μάτι κάτω από νερό που τρέχει, όχι με μεγάλη δύναμη για περίπου 10 λεπτά.* Βεβαιωθείτε ότι ξεπλένετε και τις 2 πλευρές των βλεφάρων πολύ καλά.* Αν το μάτι είναι κλειστό, κρατήστε τα βλέφαρα ανοιχτά, απαλά αλλά σταθερά.* Καλύψτε το μάτι με ένα αποστειρωμένο ειδικό επίθεμα.* Πηγαίνετε ή στείλτε τον πάσχοντα στο νοσοκομείο. ~** Ιώσεις: Δυναμώστε τις άμυνές σας
Ποιος είναι ο καλύτερος τρόπος για να προστατευτούμε από τις ιώσεις του χειμώνα; Ακολουθούν επτά συμβουλές- βασισμένες σε μελέτες, που μπορεί να φανούν χρήσιμες σε όσους τις ακολουθήσουν. 1. Μην χάνετε απότομα βάρος. Τα περιττά κιλά εξασθενούν τις φυσικές άμυνες του οργανισμού. «Το σωματικό λίπος εκκρίνει ορμόνες που καταστέλλουν το ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα» εξηγεί η δρ Λορντ.
Ωστόσο, η απότομη απώλεια βάρους δεν είναι η λύση. Πρόσφατη αμερικανική μελέτη έδειξε ότι πειραματόζωα που υποβλήθηκαν σε αυστηρή δίαιτα είχαν περισσότερες πιθανότητες να αρρωστήσουν απ’ ό,τι άλλα ζώα που έχαναν βάρος αργά και σταθερά.
2. Να ξεκουράζεστε. Μία και μόνο νύχτα κακού ύπνου αρκεί για να ελαττωθεί κατά το ήμισυ η αποτελεσματικότητα του ανοσοποιητικού συστήματος, ανακάλυψαν Αμερικανοί ερευνητές.
3. Να περπατάτε. Πολυάριθμες μελέτες έχουν διαπιστώσει ότι η φυσική δραστηριότητα μπορεί να κάνει τη διαφορά στη λειτουργία του ανοσοποιητικού συστήματος. Τον περασμένο μήνα, μελέτη που δημοσιεύθηκε στη «Βρετανική Επιθεώρηση Αθλητιατρικής», έδειξε ότι όσοι φροντίζουν να γυμνάζονται τουλάχιστον πέντε μέρες την εβδομάδα μειώνουν έως 46% τις πιθανότητες να κρυολογήσουν τον χειμώνα.
Συνεπώς, «φροντίστε να περπατάτε αρκετές φορές μέσα στην ημέρα για λίγα λεπτά και με αρκετά γρήγορο βήμα, ώστε να λαχανιάζετε λίγο και να αρχίζετε να ιδρώνετε» συνιστά η δρ Λορντ. 4. Αποφύγετε το στρες. Το στρες ασκεί «τεράστια» αρνητική επίδραση στο ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα, κατά τον δρα Κάρναου. Οι μελέτες έχουν δείξει ότι το στρες εμποδίζει τα ουδετερόφιλα κύτταρα να σκοτώνουν τα βακτήρια, με συνέπεια να καθίσταται ο οργανισμός ευάλωτος σε επικίνδυνες λοιμώξεις.
5. Προσέχετε τι τρώτε. Η διατροφή αποτελεί «κλειδί» για την υγεία του ανοσοποιητικού. «Ορισμένα τρόφιμα διεγείρουν τις φυσικές άμυνες του οργανισμού» τονίζει η δρ Σένκερ. Το σελήνιο (στα καρύδια), ο σίδηρος (στο κόκκινο κρέας και τα όσπρια), ο ψευδάργυρος (σε οστρακόδερμα, δημητριακά και γαλακτοκομικά), η βιταμίνη Α (από καρότα, κολοκύθια, πορτοκαλί ή κίτρινες πιπεριές), η βιταμίνη C (από εσπεριδοειδή) και η βιταμίνη Ε (από σπόρους και ελαιόλαδο), είναι μερικά από τα τρόφιμα που βοηθάνε τις φυσικές μας άμυνες.
6. Μην ξεχνάτε τα «καλά» βακτήρια με την αντιβίωση. Τα προβιοτικά που παρέχουν τα μεγαλύτερα οφέλη όταν καταναλώνονται σε περιόδους που παίρνει κανείς αντιβιοτικά, εξουδετερώνουν τόσο τα παθογόνα βακτήρια όσο και τα «καλά» βακτήρια της πεπτικής οδού, κατά τον δρα Κάτλερ. 7. Βγείτε έξω. Η «βιταμίνη του ήλιου», η βιταμίνη D, βρίσκεται στο επίκεντρο του ενδιαφέροντος των ειδικών σε θέματα ανοσίας. «Τα τελευταία χρόνια αρχίσαμε να συνειδητοποιούμε ότι επηρεάζει πάρα πολύ τα μακροφάγα και ότι η έλλειψή της από τον οργανισμό έχει ως συνέπεια εξασθένηση του ανοσοποιητικού συστήματος» εξηγεί η δρ Λορντ.-

~** Εγκυμοσύνη και δίκερος μήτρα

H δίκερος μήτρα αποτελεί μια συχνή ανατομική παραλλαγή της μήτρας και οφείλεται σε διαταραχή του σχηματισμού της στη διάρκεια στης εμβρυϊκής ζωής. Ουσιαστικά, η μήτρα, αντί να έχει σχήμα ισοσκελούς τριγώνου, έχει σχήμα σφεντόνας, χωρίζοντας έτσι στα δύο την κοιλότητα του ενδομητρίου. Αυτό θεωρητικά μπορεί να επηρεάσει την εμφύτευση και ανάπτυξη του εμβρύου.
Στο ερώτημα αν μπορεί μία γυναίκα με δίκερο μήτρα να μείνει έγκυος και να γεννήσει ένα υγιές παιδί, απαντά με σχετικό του άρθρο στο iatronet.gr , o μαιευτήρας γυναικολόγος Χ. Χηνιάδης: «Μελέτες αποδεικνύουν ότι το περίπου 70% των γυναικών που έχουν δίκερο μήτρα δεν έχουν κανένα πρόβλημα στην εγκυμοσύνη τους. Η διάγνωση γίνεται με απλό ή τρισδιάστατο υπερηχογράφημα, με σαλπιγγογραφία, αλλά και με υστεροσκόπηση και λαπαροσκόπηση.
Το πιο κοινό πρόβλημα που συνδέεται με τη δίκερο μήτρα είναι ο πρόωρος τοκετός ή ο ανεπαρκής τράχηλος (πρόωρη διαστολή του τραχήλου) στην εγκυμοσύνη. Στην περίπτωση αυτή μπορεί να γίνει περίδεση του τραχήλου με ράμμα. Φαίνεται, επίσης, ότι ποσοστό 15% των καθ' έξιν αποβολών που οφείλονται σε διαταραχές της μήτρας μπορεί να σχετίζονται με τη δίκερο μήτρα. Ορισμένες από αυτές τις περιπτώσεις μπορούν να βελτιωθούν χειρουργικά».
Η δίκερος μήτρα μπορεί να διορθωθεί με μητροπλαστική (χειρουργική επέμβαση για την ένωση των δύο μισών τμημάτων της μήτρας). Αν μια γυναίκα μείνει έγκυος μετά από μια τέτοια επέμβαση, είναι απαραίτητη η πραγματοποίηση καισαρικής τομής για τη γέννηση του παιδιού.-

~** Μεσογειακή αναιμία: Νέα μέθοδος διάγνωσης στο έμβρυο
Σε συνέντευξη Tύπου, που οργανώθηκε στη Ρώμη, παρουσιάσθηκαν τα μέχρι τώρα αποτελέσματα μιας νέας μεθόδου για τη διάγνωση της μεσογειακής αναιμίας στο έμβρυο, σε πολύ πρώιμο στάδιο της κύησης. Οι μελέτες είναι αποτέλεσμα της συνεργασίας του δημόσιου νοσοκομείου V. Cervello του Παλέρμο Σικελίας, με τον αναπληρωτή καθηγητή μαιευτικής -γυναικολογίας του Πανεπιστημίου Ιωαννίνων, Γιώργο Μακρυδήμα.
Πρόκειται για την παρακέντηση εξωεμβρυϊκής κοιλότητας, που στην Ιταλία ονομάσθηκε «celocentesi».Αναλυτικά, απορροφάται μια μικρή ποσότητα υγρού από την εξωεμβρυϊκή κοιλότητα, στο διάστημα από την έκτη μέχρι την ένατη εβδομάδα της κύησης, δηλαδή πέντε εβδομάδες νωρίτερα από τις άλλες διαγνωστικές μεθόδους προγεννητικού ελέγχου.«Τα αποτελέσματα σε ό,τι αφορά στη διάγνωση της μεσογειακής αναιμίας, διαμέσου της μεθόδου «celocentesi», είναι πολύ σημαντικά και θα δημοσιευθούν σύντομα στο διεθνές επιστημονικό περιοδικό British Journal of Haematology» τόνισε ο Έλληνας γυναικολόγος, Γιώργος Μακρυδήμας. Παράλληλα, συνεχίζονται και οι έρευνες για την ασφάλεια της μεθόδου, που σύμφωνα με τον Έλληνα και τους Ιταλούς επιστήμονες, κρίνεται απόλυτα ικανοποιητική. Όπως υπογραμμίσθηκε, οι περαιτέρω μελέτες πραγματοποιήθηκαν από κοινού με τον Κύπριο καθηγητή Κύπρο Νικολαΐδη, ιδιαίτερα πεπειραμένο στον προγεννητικό έλεγχο και την εμβρυϊκή ιατρική. Επόμενος στόχος της ελληνοϊταλικής αυτής συνεργασίας είναι η ενδομήτρια θεραπεία, με τη δυνατότητα μεταμόσχευσης μυελού των οστών στο έμβρυο, αλλά και η προσπάθεια για εμβρυϊκή διάγνωση του συνδρόμου «down».-

~** Όλα όσα πρέπει να ξέρετε για τη γαστρεντερίτιδα
Μετά το κοινό κρυολόγημα, οι γαστρεντερίτιδες αποτελούν το δεύτερο σε συχνότητα νόσημα που εμφανίζεται σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο.Τι είναι η γαστρεντερίτιδα;Η γαστρεντερίτιδα είναι φλεγμονή που προσβάλλει ταυτόχρονα το στομάχι και τα έντερα. Η νόσος περιορίζεται από μόνη της σε διάστημα που κυμαίνεται από μία ως τρεις ημέρες, στην πλειονότητα των περιπτώσεων.Υπάρχουν, όμως, συγκεκριμένες κατηγορίες ατόμων που είναι πιο εκτεθειμένοι στις επιπλοκές της. ~**Η βόλτα στη λιακάδα προστατεύει από τον καρκίνο του δέρματος;
Νέα βρετανική επιστημονική έρευνα υποστηρίζει ότι οι άνθρωποι που βγαίνουν τακτικά για βόλτα, απολαμβάνοντας τον ήλιο, βοηθάνε το δέρμα τους να προστατευτεί από τον καρκίνο.
Οι ερευνητές, υπό την καθηγήτρια επιδημιολογίας Τζούλια Νιούτον Μπίσοπ του Πανεπιστημίου του Λιντς, που δημοσίευσαν τη σχετική μελέτη στο ευρωπαϊκό περιοδικό για θέματα καρκίνου «European Journal of Cancer», αφού μελέτησαν τον τρόπο που η έκθεση στον ήλιο αυξάνει τον κίνδυνο για εμφάνιση επικίνδυνου μελανώματος στο δέρμα, ανακάλυψαν ότι όσοι άνθρωποι περνάνε στον ήλιο τέσσερις έως πέντε ώρες κάθε μέρα στη διάρκεια του Σαββατοκύριακου είναι λιγότερο πιθανό να εμφανίσουν όγκους.
Η ανακάλυψη φαίνεται να ανατρέπει, σε ένα βαθμό, την πεποίθηση, ότι η έκθεση στην ηλιακή ακτινοβολία οπωσδήποτε αυξάνει τον κίνδυνο για καρκίνο του δέρματος. Η μελέτη δείχνει ότι μόνο η υπερβολική έκθεση στον ήλιο, ιδίως όταν προκαλεί έγκαυμα, μπορεί να προκαλέσει μελάνωμα (την πιο επικίνδυνη μορφή κακοήθους όγκου στο δέρμα).
«Η σχέση ανάμεσα στην ποσότητα του ήλιου στην οποία εκτιθέμεθα και στον κίνδυνο μελανώματος είναι πολύπλοκη… Η νέα έρευνά μας δείχνει ότι η τακτική έκθεση στον ήλιο μπορεί στην πραγματικότητα να μειώσει τον κίνδυνο» δήλωσε η καθηγήτρια Μπίσοπ. -

~** Νέα ανακάλυψη στη μάχη εναντίον της σκλήρυνσης κατά πλάκας
Βρετανοί επιστήμονες έδειξαν με πειραματόζωα ότι είναι δυνατό να αντιστραφεί η βλάβη που η σκλήρυνση κατά πλάκας προκαλεί στα νευρικά κύτταρα.
Αυτό επιτεύχθηκε με την ενεργοποίηση βλαστικών κυττάρων στον εγκέφαλο, η οποία επέτρεψε την αναγέννηση του έλυτρου μυελίνης, το οποίο περιβάλλει τους ιστούς των νεύρων. Το επίτευγμα μπορεί να οδηγήσει στις πρώτες κλινικές δοκιμές νέων πειραματικών φαρμάκων την επόμενη πενταετία, καθώς και σε πιθανές φαρμακευτικές θεραπείες σε περίπου 15 χρόνια, σύμφωνα με τις εκτιμήσεις των επιστημόνων.
Οι υπάρχουσες σήμερα θεραπείες εστιάζονται στην καταστολή του ανοσοποιητικού συστήματος, ώστε να σταματήσει να καταστρέφει τη μυελίνη, όμως δεν μπορούν να αναπαράγουν την κατεστραμμένη μυελίνη, κάτι που φαίνεται να καταφέρνει η νέα μέθοδος, με τη βοήθεια των βλαστικών κυττάρων του εγκεφάλου και του νωτιαίου μυελού.
«Για τους ανθρώπους με σκλήρυνση κατά πλάκας, αυτή είναι μια από τις πιο σημαντικές ανακαλύψεις τα τελευταία χρόνια. Είναι δύσκολο να εκφραστεί με λόγια πόσο επαναστατική μπορεί να αποδειχθεί αυτή η ανακάλυψη και πόσο ζωτικό είναι να συνεχιστεί η σχετική έρευνα» δήλωσε εκπρόσωπος της βρετανικής Εταιρείας Σκλήρυνσης κατά Πλάκας.
Η σκλήρυνση κατά πλάκας πλήττει πολλά εκατομμύρια ανθρώπους σε όλο τον κόσμο, πιο συχνά ενήλικες 20 έως 40 ετών. Τα συμπτώματα περιλαμβάνουν κόπωση, θολή όραση, νοητικά προβλήματα και μυϊκούς σπασμούς.

~** Πειραματική μέθοδος «καίει» τα καρκινικά κύτταρα
Βρετανοί επιστήμονες άρχισαν να εφαρμόζουν μια νέα τεχνική που καταστρέφει τα καρκινικά κύτταρα, «καίγοντάς» τα με μαγνητικούς παλμούς.
Η νέα μέθοδος, που ονομάζεται υπερθερμία και έχει δοκιμαστεί προς το παρόν μόνο σε πειραματόζωα (ποντίκια), αυξάνει τη θερμοκρασία των κακοήθων κυττάρων, μέχρι αυτά να πεθάνουν.
Αναλυτικά, οι ερευνητές περιβάλλουν τα καρκινικά κύτταρα με μικροσκοπικά σωματίδια οξειδίου του σιδήρου, τα οποία δονούνται σε ένα μαγνητικό πεδίο, αναγκάζοντας τα κύτταρα του όγκου να υπερθερμανθούν και τελικά να καταστραφούν.
Οι επιστήμονες ευελπιστούν ότι θα καταφέρουν να αξιοποιήσουν τη θεραπεία της υπερθερμίας στους ανθρώπους, ώστε να στοχεύουν τα καρκινικά κύτταρα και να τα σκοτώνουν, χωρίς παράλληλα να καταστρέφουν τα περιβάλλοντα υγιή κύτταρα, κάτι που οδηγεί στις γνωστές παρενέργειες της χημειοθεραπείας και της θεραπείας με ακτινοβολίες.Η τεχνική αναπτύσσεται από τον ειδικό στον καρκίνο δρα Σαμ Τζέιμς του University College του Λονδίνου, σε συνεργασία με τον καθηγητή Κούεντιν Πάνκχερστ, διευθυντή ερευνών του Royal Institution, σύμφωνα με τη βρετανική «Τέλεγκραφ». Όπως ανέφερε ο Τζέιμς, τα καρκινικά κύτταρα αρχίζουν να πεθαίνουν, όταν θερμανθούν πάνω από τους 43 βαθμούς Κελσίου (η φυσιολογική θερμοκρασία του σώματος είναι γύρω στους 37 βαθμούς). Τα εργαστηριακά πειράματα έδειξαν ότι η τεχνική μπορεί να αυξήσει τη θερμοκρασία μέχρι και τους 60 βαθμούς Κελσίου. Οι ερευνητές δήλωσαν ότι η καινούργια μέθοδος βρίσκεται ακόμα στα πρώτα στάδιά της, αλλά είναι ελπιδοφόρα και μπορεί μελλοντικά να αποτελέσει μια νέα θεραπευτική τεχνική, ιδίως για τον καρκίνο του πνεύμονα.

~** Το χασμουρητό είναι «κολλητικό» μετά την ηλικία των πέντε ετών

Σύμφωνα με νέα βρετανική επιστημονική έρευνα, τα μωρά και τα μικρά παιδιά μέχρι πέντε ετών έχουν «ανοσία» στο χασμουρητό των άλλων και δεν το μιμούνται ενστικτωδώς, όπως οι πιο μεγάλοι.Οι ερευνητές, υπό τον ψυχολόγο δρα Τζιμ Άντερσον του Πανεπιστημίου του Στέρλινγκ, που δημοσίευσαν τη σχετική μελέτη στο περιοδικό βιολογίας «Biology Letters» της Βασιλικής Εταιρείας επιστημών της Βρετανίας, μελέτησαν 22 βρέφη και μικρά παιδιά, στα οποία έδειξαν βίντεο άλλων παιδιών, ενηλίκων (συμπεριλαμβανομένης της μητέρας κάθε παιδιού), καθώς και ζώων που χασμουριόντουσαν.
Οι επιστήμονες διαπίστωσαν ότι τα παιδιά χασμουριούνται αυθόρμητα μέχρι τα πέντε τους χρόνια, χωρίς να επηρεάζονται από κάποιον άλλο.
Όμως, από την ηλικία των πέντε μέχρι των 11 ετών, όλα πια τα παιδιά «κολλάνε» το χασμουρητό, όπως και οι ενήλικοι. «Η ακριβής αιτία που χασμουριόμαστε δεν έχει ακόμα κατανοηθεί πολύ καλά, αλλά δεν υπάρχει αμφιβολία ότι στους ενήλικες το χασμουρητό είναι άκρως κολλητικό» δήλωσε ο Άντερσον, ο οποίος πρόσθεσε ότι το χασμουρητό μπορεί να σχετίζεται με την ανάπτυξη του μετωπιαίου φλοιού του εγκεφάλου, η οποία συνεχίζεται σε όλη την παιδική ηλικία.Η πιο πιθανή αιτία για το χασμουρητό είναι ότι αποτελεί αντίδραση για τα χαμηλά επίπεδα του οξυγόνου στο αίμα, προκειμένου να γεμίσουν οι πνεύμονες με αέρα και να αυξηθεί η ποσότητα οξυγόνου στον οργανισμό. -

~** Χριστούγεννα χωρίς… περιττά κιλά

Τα μελομακάρονα, οι κουραμπιέδες και η γαλοπούλα είναι μερικά από τα χριστουγεννιάτικα εδέσματα που θα καταναλώσουμε εντός λίγων ημερών.
Είναι γνωστό ότι κατά την περίοδο των Χριστουγέννων και της Πρωτοχρονιάς τείνουμε να παίρνουμε βάρος μεταξύ δύο έως τεσσάρων κιλών κατά μέσο όρο.
Ωστόσο, δεν χρειάζεται να στερηθείτε κάποια από τα λουκούλλεια γεύματα, αφού με τη σωστή οργάνωση και μερικά έξυπνα τρικ θα καταφέρετε να μειώσετε τις υπερβολές και να κερδίσετε τη μάχη με τις θερμίδες!
Για να μπορέσετε να απολαύσετε τα γιορτινά εδέσματα σε μεγάλες ποσότητες, φροντίστε από τώρα να μειώσετε την κατανάλωση φαγητού γύρω στις 200-300 θερμίδες από το καθημερινό σας διαιτολόγιο.
Προσπαθήστε να μειώσετε τα τσιμπολογήματα καθ' όλη τη διάρκεια της μέρας. Αρκεστείτε σε ένα καλό πρωινό και προσθέστε τα φρούτα στη διατροφή σας που περιέχουν πολλά θρεπτικά συστατικά χωρίς να σας προσθέτουν θερμίδες.
Έτσι, θα μπορέσετε να αντισταθμίσετε τις υπερβολές της γιορτινής περιόδου.

Αποτελέσματα νέας δημοσκόπησης έδειξαν ότι το 72% των συμμετεχόντων «ρίχνει» μια ματιά στο προφίλ του στο Facebook, λίγο πριν αποκοιμηθεί.
Επίσης, το 18% – εκτός από την προαναφερθείσα ματιά – κάνει και μερικά post-it της τελευταίας στιγμής, πριν βυθιστεί στην αγκαλιά του Μορφέα!
Η μέση διάρκεια ασχολίας με το Facebook, λίγο πριν από τον ύπνο, κάτω από τις κουβέρτες, είναι 16 λεπτά.
Η τάση αυτή, βέβαια, δεν βρίσκει και τόσο σύμφωνους τους ειδικούς. «Η χρήση ηλεκτρονικών συσκευών, είτε είναι υπολογιστές είτε κινητά ή άλλα gadget, ασκεί ιδιαίτερα αρνητική επίδραση στον ύπνο» δηλώνει κατηγορηματικά ο δρ Μάικλ Χέιστινγκς, από το κέντρο του βρετανικού Ιατρικού Ερευνητικού Συμβουλίου (MRC) στο Νοσοκομείο Άντενμπρουκ.
«Η έκθεση στο λαμπερό φως της οθόνης ενός κομπιούτερ και ενός κινητού την ώρα που είναι κανείς ξαπλωμένος επιβραδύνει την ικανότητα του εγκεφάλου και ολόκληρου του οργανισμού να βυθιστεί στον ύπνο. Το επακόλουθο είναι να μην κοιμάται κανείς όπως και όσο χρειάζεται – και δυστυχώς, αυτό δεν γίνεται αντιληπτό».
Η ίδια δημοσκόπηση έδειξε ακόμη πως, εκτός από το Facebook, το 25% των νέων χρησιμοποιεί στο κρεβάτι το κομπιούτερ του για να καταρτίζει το πρόγραμμα της επόμενης ημέρας, ενώ το 10% βρίσκει την ώρα κατάλληλη για να κάνει τις on-line πληρωμές του.-

~** Η υπερβολική ανησυχία αποτελεί ψυχολογική διαταραχή;
Η ανησυχία είναι ένα συναίσθηµα που προκαλείται από αρνητικές σκέψεις και εικόνες, κατά τις οποίες το πρόσωπο κάνει νοητικές προσπάθειες να αποφύγει µια επερχόµενη απειλή.Η υπερβολική ανησυχία έχει υψηλή ένταση, συχνότητα και διάρκεια και αποτελεί το βασικό σύµπτωµα της γενικευµένης αγχώδους διαταραχής. Τα καθηµερινά προβλήµατα (π.χ. οικονοµικά, οικιακά, θέµατα ασφάλειας, υγεία) κυριαρχούν ως θεµατολογία άγχους, ενώ η δυσκολία στον έλεγχο της ανησυχίας είναι χαρακτηριστική. Η υπερβολική ανησυχία περικλείει πληθώρα ψυχοσωματικών συμπτωμάτων, όπως ψυχοκινητική ανησυχία, ευερεθιστότητα, εύκολη κόπωση, δυσκολία στη συγκέντρωση, µυϊκή ένταση, ελλιπής και ανήσυχος ύπνος. Αν τα συµπτώµατα επιµένουν, τότε η προσπάθεια να «αυτοθεραπευτούµε» µάλλον είναι μη αποτελεσματική. Η γνωσιακή-συµπεριφορική θεραπεία, µια βραχείας διάρκειας ψυχολογική παρέµβαση, στοχεύει στη νοητική διαχείριση του προβλήµατος µέσω: * Του προσώπου, καθώς η αγχώδης ανησυχία του προέρχεται από τις ερµηνείες που δίνει στα γεγονότα και όχι από τα ίδια τα γεγονότα. * Των συµπτωµάτων, µε την εκµάθηση τεχνικών µυϊκής χαλάρωσης και σωστής αναπνοής. * Της στάσης για «επίλυση προβλήµατος» και διαχείριση του χρόνου, που συνήθως υπολειτουργούν. ~** Πρωτεΐνη υπεύθυνη για τον καρκίνο του προστάτη
Ερευνητές του Πανεπιστημίου της Καλιφόρνιας εντόπισαν μια πρωτεΐνη, την Βmi-1, η οποία μετατρέπει τα υγιή κύτταρα του προστάτη σε καρκινικά.Η πρωτεΐνη Βmi-1 εντοπίζεται σε υψηλά επίπεδα στα καρκινικά κύτταρα του προστάτη και ιδίως σε όγκους του αδένα που έχουν ταχεία ανάπτυξη και είναι δύσκολο να αντιμετωπιστούν με θεραπείες. Υπό φυσιολογικές συνθήκες, ο οργανισμός χρησιμοποιεί τη συγκεκριμένη πρωτεΐνη, προκειμένου να δημιουργηθούν νέα κύτταρα στη θέση άλλων που καταστρέφονται.Οι επιστήμονες αναφέρουν ότι το να μπει «φρένο» στην παραγωγή της πρωτεΐνης μπορεί να οδηγήσει σε προστασία των κυττάρων του προστάτη ενάντια στην καταστροφή τους που οδηγεί στη νόσο. Σχολιάζοντας τη νέα μελέτη, η δρ Έλεν Ρίπον από το Ίδρυμα για τον Καρκίνο του Προστάτη ανέφερε ότι «μόνο μέσω της κατανόησης του τρόπου με τον οποίον προκαλείται και ''θρέφεται'' η συγκεκριμένη μορφή καρκίνου έχουμε ελπίδα να την ελέγξουμε κάποια ημέρα». ~** Ο έρωτας δεν είναι θέμα φερομονών

Οι φερομόνες μέχρι σήμερα θεωρούνταν το «κλειδί» στην ερωτική έλξη ανάμεσα στα δύο φύλα. Σήμερα, ερευνητής υποστηρίζει πως οι φερομόνες, αυτά τα μυστηριώδη χημικά στοιχεία που... πυροδοτούν την έλξη, απλώς δεν υπάρχουν!Ο Richard Doty του Penn State Πανεπιστημίου της Ιατρικής Σχολής ισχυρίζεται πως τα θηλαστικά, σε αντίθεση με τα έντομα, δεν εκλύουν χημικές ουσίες που μπορεί να προσελκύσουν ένα άλλο θηλαστικό.Ο Doty, ο οποίος έχει περάσει ατελείωτες ώρες προσπαθώντας να απομυθοποιήσει την επίδραση των φερομονών, λέει: «Οι άνθρωποι θέλουν να πιστεύουν ότι οι φερομόνες πράγματι υπάρχουν, είναι μέρος της ανάγκης τους να πιστεύουν στο άγνωστο. Θέλουμε να πιστεύουμε ότι κάποια πράγματα συμβαίνουν πέρα από τα ήδη γνωστά, πέρα από τις αισθήσεις και τις αντιλήψεις μας».Την έρευνα δημοσίευσε η «Daily Mail».-

~** Τα ψάρια προστατεύουν τα μάτια μας

Σύμφωνα με μελέτη, μια διατροφή πλούσια σε ψάρια μπορεί να είναι το «κλειδί» για την αποφυγή μιας οφθαλμοπάθειας, που αποτελεί την κύρια αιτία τύφλωσης στην τρίτη ηλικία.Συγκεκριμένα, τα ωμέγα-3 λιπαρά οξέα των ψαριών, όπως ο σολομός, το σκουμπρί, η σαρδέλα και ο τόνος, φαίνεται ότι μειώνουν σημαντικά τον κίνδυνο αναπτύξεως εκφυλίσεως της ωχράς κηλίδας. Η ωχρά κηλίδα είναι το κεντρικό τμήμα του αμφιβληστροειδούς χιτώνα – της δομής στο πίσω μέρος των ματιών που φέρει τα κύτταρα της όρασης.Στο πλαίσιο της μελέτης, Αμερικανοί επιστήμονες παρακολούθησαν την πορεία της υγείας 2.400 εθελοντών ηλικίας άνω των 65 ετών, διαπιστώνοντας ότι όσοι έτρωγαν λιπαρά ψάρια δύο ή περισσότερες φορές την εβδομάδα είχαν πολύ λιγότερες πιθανότητες να παρουσιάσουν εκφύλιση της ωχράς κηλίδας. Τη μελέτη πραγματοποίησαν επιστήμονες από το Ίδρυμα Οφθαλμού Wilmer της Ιατρικής Σχολής του Πανεπιστημίου Johns Hopkins, στη Βαλτιμόρη. Although the worldwide popularity of debates is particularly evident at this moment in time, it has taken many decades for the tradition to take root around the globe. Even in countries with established histories of campaign debates, the institution remains fragile, wholly dependent on the willingness of candidates to confront their opponents in a live, unscripted setting. As history has shown, this can be a dangerous game for its star players, because debates are more easily lost than won.America's Kennedy-Nixon debates in 1960 moved debates to the tiptop event on television. Political observers were surprised when Richard Nixon accepted John Kennedy's challenge to a series of four joint TV appearances. Although Nixon considered himself the superior communicator, it was Kennedy who approached the debates more seriously, preparing for the events with long hours of study and intense practice sessions with aides. Kennedy even made sure he had a good tan before the first debate, so that he would not look pale on camera. In the end, John F. Kennedy prevailed as the clear winner, proving the power of live debates. So frightening was this lesson that another 16 years would pass before the American debate tradition resumed with Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter.Ayn Rand points out there is a certain type of argument which, in fact, is not an argument, but a means of forestalling debate and extorting an opponent's agreement with one's undiscussed notions. It is a method of bypassing logic by means of psychological pressure. It consists of threatening to impeach an opponent's character by means of his argument, thus impeaching the argument without debate. Example: "Only the immoral can fail to see that Candidate X's argument is false." . . . The falsehood of his argument is asserted arbitrarily and offered as proof of his immorality.In today's epistemological jungle, that second method is used more frequently than any other type of irrational argument. It should be classified as a logical fallacy and may be designated as the Argument from Intimidation.The essential characteristic of the Argument from Intimidation is its appeal to moral self-doubt and its reliance on the fear, guilt or ignorance of the victim. It is used in the form of an ultimatum demanding that the victim renounce a given idea without discussion, under threat of being considered morally unworthy. The pattern is always: Only those who are evil (dishonest, heartless, insensitive, ignorant, etc.) can hold such an idea.The Argument from Intimidation dominates today's discussions in two forms. In public speeches and print, it flourishes in the form of long, involved, elaborate structures of unintelligible verbiage, which convey nothing clearly except a moral threat. Only the primitive-minded can fail to realize that clarity is oversimplification. But in private, day-by-day experience, it comes up wordlessly, between the lines, in the form of inarticulate sounds conveying unstated implications. It relies, not on what is said, but on how it is said — not on content, but on tone of voice.The tone is usually one of scornful or belligerent incredulity. "Surely you are not an advocate of anarchy, are you?" And if this does not intimidate the prospective victim — who answers, properly: "I am," — the ensuing dialogue goes something like this: "Oh, you couldn't be! Not really!" "Really." "But everybody knows that anarchy is not workable!" "I don't." "Oh, come now!" "Since I don't know it, will you please tell me the reasons for thinking that anarchy is not workable?" "Oh, don't be ridiculous!" "Will you tell me the reasons?" "Well, really, if you don't know, I couldn't possibly tell you!"All this is accompanied by raised eyebrows, wide-eyed stares, shrugs, grunts, snickers and the entire arsenal of nonverbal signals communicating ominous innuendoes and emotional vibrations of a single kind: disapproval.If those vibrations fail, if such debaters are challenged, one finds that they have no arguments, no evidence, no proof, no reasons, no ground to stand on — that their noisy aggressiveness serves to hide a vacuum — that the Argument from Intimidation is a confession of intellectual impotence.Rand emphasizes that the Argument from Intimidation does not consist of introducing moral judgment into intellectual issues, but of substituting moral judgment for intellectual argument. Moral evaluations are implicit in most intellectual issues; it is not merely permissible, but mandatory to pass moral judgment when and where appropriate; to suppress such judgment is an act of moral cowardice. But a moral judgment must always follow, not precede or supersede, the reasons on which it is based.How does one resist that Argument? There is only one weapon against it: moral certainty. When one enters any intellectual battle, big or small, public or private, one cannot seek, desire or expect the enemy's sanction. It also highlights the precarious situation of Chinese news websites, which are the victims of the government's strict rules.The article mentions the case of Wanju Wang, a website inspired by Digg.com, a U.S. social networking website that enables people to quickly recommend news stories to other Internet users. The participating organisations, which are members of the International Partnership Group for Azerbaijan, include Article-19 Organization, the Human Rights House Foundation, Reporters Without Borders, and the WorldAssociation of Newspapers and News Publishers."The organisations call upon the Committee of Ministers to carefully consider Eynulla Fatullayev's case during the upcoming meeting and to adopt strong interim measures taking note that no measures have been taken to comply with the Fatullayev case judgment," said Lucie Morillon, Reporters Without Borders.In addition to the deteriorating freedom of expression situation in the country marked by the criminalisation of defamation, systematic acts of violence against journalists critical of the government and a pervasive climate of impunity, Azerbaijan has a poor record of implementing European Court rulings. In this particular case, the European Court ordered the immediate release of Fatullayev, which is exceptional as the Court does not usually order the release of individuals. Adherence to European Courtdecisions is a requirement for Council of Europe Member States, including Azerbaijan.The European Court of Human Rights is the ultimate arbiter of compliance with the European Convention on Human Rights. On 22 April, the European Court ruled that Azerbaijan had violated Fatullayev's rights to freedom of expression and to a fair trial by imprisoning him, and called for his immediate release. However, rather thanreleasing him, authorities proceeded with a new charge against Fatullayev of possessing illegal drugs, for which he was convicted on 6 July. The charge was widely believed to have been fabricated in order to keep him in prison despite the European Court's judgment in his case. On 4 October, the decision became final and legally binding on Azerbaijan, after the European Court's Grand Chamber rejected theAzerbaijani government's request for the review of the decision.The deteriorating freedom of expression situation in the country was magnified during the period surrounding Azerbaijan's 7 November parliamentary elections. The lack of political pluralism in the broadcast media in the pre-elections period, the continuedimprisonment of journalists and bloggers critical of the government during the elections, and authorities' interference with journalists' coverage of election day proceedings were heavily condemned by a group of nine international nongovernmental organisations, including those undertaking the mission to Strasbourg.Netizens cannot live properly when they are harassed by kleptocrats and cybercops. On October 18, 2010, a violent gang of six Greek cybercops broke into the home of a heroic dissident, confiscated his computer, locked him in jail, and leaked false information to the media ridiculing the dissident all over Greece! Η ΧΑΜΕΝΗ ΓΕΝΙΑ ΤΟΥ ΜΝΗΜΟΝΙΟΥ... ΚΥΒΕΡΝΗΣΗ ΠΑΣΟΚ: Η ΑΤΜΟΜΗΧΑΝΗ ΤΗΣ ΟΠΙΣΘΟΔΡΟΜΗΣΗΣ

Δεκάδες χρόνια πίσω γυρίζει τον ελληνικό λαό το Μνημόνιο που υπέγραψε η κυβέρνηση Παπανδρέου με την ΕΕ και το ΔΝΤ. Θα επιφέρει βίαιη πτώση του βιοτικού επιπέδου των Ελλήνων.

Για τους μεγαλύτερους, οι οποίοι έχουν ζήσει τη φτώχεια των δεκαετιών του 1950, του 1960 ή του 1970 και τη διαρκή βελτίωση της κατάστασης προς μεγαλύτερη υλική ευμάρεια τις επόμενες δεκαετίες, η οπισθοδρόμηση της εποχής του Γιώργου Παπανδρέου είναι σίγουρα κάτι πολύ δυσάρεστο, το οποίο όμως δεν τους εξεγείρει, όπως αποδεικνύει η ζωή. Ελπίζουν και νομίζουν ότι θα μπορέσουν να προσαρμοστούν στη μιζέρια προηγούμενων δεκαετιών.Τα πράγματα όμως είναι διαφορετικά με τους νέους. Το αίσθημα της αδικίας εις βάρος τους, τους πνίγει. Ιδίως όσοι βρίσκονται γύρω στα τριάντα, έχουν τελειώσει τις σπουδές τους, έχουν συχνά κάνει και μεταπτυχιακές σπουδές κατά δεκάδες χιλιάδες, χιλιάδες από αυτούς έχουν πάρει και διδακτορικά διπλώματα, κατέχουν μία, δύο ή περισσότερες ξένες γλώσσες και ψάχνουν απεγνωσμένα για δουλειά ανάλογη με τα προσόντα τους χωρίς να μπορούν να βρουν. Καθόλου σπάνια δεν μπορούν να βρουν ούτε υποδεέστερη δουλειά για να βγάζουν έστω χρήματα που θα τους επιτρέψουν να αρχίσουν την αυτόνομη, δική τους ζωή, τη δική τους οικογένεια. Δεν υπάρχει πιο ειδεχθής εγκληματική πράξη μιας κοινωνίας από το να εμποδίζει τους νέους της να ανοίξουν τα φτερά τους, να διοχετεύσουν δημιουργικά την ορμή και το πάθος τους για έναν καινούργιο κόσμο που θα φέρει τη δική τους σφραγίδα.Ηταν που ήταν χάλια η κατάσταση τα τελευταία χρόνια, ήρθε τώρα και το Μνημόνιο του ΔΝΤ για να ενταφιάσει οριστικά και αμετάκλητα τα όνειρα της σημερινής νέας γενιάς. Πέρα από τα ασύστολα ψεύδη και τις ανοησίες σκοπιμότητας, που λένε οι υπουργοί για να συγκαλύψουν το ανοσιούργημα που διαπράττουν, η ουσία είναι πως ο στραγγαλισμός της ελληνικής οικονομίας μέσω των όρων του Μνημονίου θα καταδικάσει στην τραγική υποβάθμιση τους νέους της πατρίδας μας για τα επόμενα τουλάχιστον δεκαπέντε-είκοσι χρόνια. Λένε τα παιδιά μέσα στην απογοήτευση και την αφέλειά τους ότι θα πάνε να δουλέψουν στο εξωτερικό, ενθαρρυμένα από τρία-πέντε παραδείγματα μορφωμένων Ελλήνων που βρήκαν εύκολα δουλειά. Μακάρι να μπορούσαν να πάνε όλα να χτίσουν έξω τη ζωή τους κι ας τα στερούμασταν εμείς και η χώρα μας που πληρώσαμε για τη μόρφωσή τους! Η ζοφερή πραγματικότητα όμως είναι ότι ολόκληρη η Ευρώπη υφίσταται βίαιες κοινωνικές αλλαγές προς τα κάτω, σε όλες τις χώρες. Τα ίδια με τα Ελληνόπουλα λένε οι νέοι της Ιρλανδίας, της Ισπανίας, της Πορτογαλίας - σύντομα ίσως και οι νέοι της Ιταλίας ή ακόμη και της... Γαλλίας! Πού θα πάνε να δουλέψουν οι μορφωμένοι νέοι μας; Πουθενά στην Ευρώπη δεν υπάρχει χώρα που να τους περιμένει για να τους απορροφήσει. Και πέρα από αυτό, είναι δυνατόν να επιβιώσει μια Ελλάδα που θα έχει μετατρέψει τους νέους της σε ναυάγια και όπου οι γέροι θα διηγούνται ιστορίες φτώχειας από τις δεκαετίες του 1950 και του 1960 για να παρηγορήσουν τους νέους πόσο συγκριτικά καλύτερη θα είναι η ζωή το 2020;Το Μνημόνιο φέρνει σκληρές, πολύ σκληρές εποχές. Οι κυβερνήσεις έδωσαν εκατοντάδες δισεκατομμύρια ευρώ για να σώσουν τους τυχοδιώκτες ζάπλουτους τραπεζίτες και τώρα ξεζουμίζουν εκατοντάδες εκατομμύρια Ευρωπαίους πολίτες για να μαζέψουν τα λεφτά που χάρισαν στους τραπεζίτες, καταδικάζοντας ως «παράπλευρη απώλεια» δεκάδες εκατομμύρια νέους της Ευρώπης στην υποαπασχόληση, στην υποβάθμιση, στην ανεργία, στην απραξία. Οι ηγέτες της ΕΕ, μαζί φυσικά και ο Γ. Παπανδρέου, οδηγούν έτσι σε ένα νέο χάσμα γενεών. Περιθωριοποιώντας τους νέους, αμείβοντάς τους πολύ λιγότερο, με μισθούς που δεν τους επιτρέπουν να ζήσουν, τους ωθούν σε μια κατάσταση μίσους εναντίον της κοινωνίας που δείχνει να μην τους θέλει. Αυτό όμως είναι εξαιρετικά επικίνδυνο. Αλλαγές Νέοι όροι της πολιτικής πάλης Αδιαφορούν πλέον οι ηγέτες των ευρωπαϊκών χωρών για τις ανάγκες και τα αιτήματα των λαών τους. Περιφρονούν τις δημοκρατικές κινητοποιήσεις τους, ακόμη και όταν οι πολίτες κατεβαίνουν στους δρόμους για να διαμαρτυρηθούν κατά εκατομμύρια, όπως πρόσφατα στη Γαλλία. Προτάσσουν την ευημερία των αριθμών έναντι της δυστυχίας των ανθρώπων και δη των νέων. Αλλάζουν έτσι τους κανόνες λειτουργίας του δημοκρατικού πολιτεύματος, όπως το γνωρίσαμε. Αυτό όμως είναι πολύ πιο επικίνδυνο από όσο φαίνεται, γιατί αυτό αντικειμενικά αλλάζει υποχρεωτικά και τους όρους της πολιτικής πάλης. Οταν οι κυβερνήσεις κωφεύουν στα αιτήματα των πολιτών, σκληραίνουν και οι άνθρωποι και οι συγκρούσεις.-

All people condemn law professor Mohammed Abdallah Al-Abdulkarim's detention in Riyad since 5 December for writing an article for a website about splits within the Saudi royal family.Following the disgusting paradigm of infamous Graecokleptocrats, who persecute and jail dissident bloggers, Abdulkarim, 40, was arrested at his home by four Saudis with no warrant on 5 December, 12 days after posting an article on the Royaah website about 86-year-old King Abdallah bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud's departure for the United States for medical reasons. It referred not only to his health problems but also to differences in the royal family over the succession and named potential successors.Following the brutal methods of freakish Greek cybercops, he is currently held in Al-Hair prison south of the capital, where he has not been allowed any contact or communication with his family. There has been no official word as to whether formal charges have been brought against him.Abdulkarim teaches law at Imam Mohammed bin Saud University, one of the country's leading Islamic universities. He is also a member of many Arab and international human rights organizations and is known for his defence of political and civil rights.The news of his arrest was revealed by a post on his Facebook page. Since then, it has been reported on many other websites and has been publicly condemned by Saudi human rights organizations.The Human Rights Observatory in Saudi Arabia called it a clear violation of the principles of good governance and human rights and said a dangerous gulf was growing between the country's royal family and its subjects. The Saudi Civil and Political Rights Association (ACPRA) condemned the interior ministry's police-state mentality and urged the authorities to respect their human rights obligations.Abdulkarim is not the only netizen currently detained in Saudi Arabia. Sheikh Mekhlef bin Dahhamal-Shammari, a writer, human rights activist and social reformer, has been held since 15 June. Shammari's arrest is believed to have been prompted by his criticism of political and religious leaders, especially in articles posted on the Saudiyoon and Rasid news websites. The Nobel Committee has confirmed that nineteen countries have declined invitations to attend the Peace Price ceremony in Norway on 10 December, a rise on the usual number of declines. This year, the Nobel Peace Prize is being awarded to Chinese prisoner of conscience Liu Xiaobo, a dissident blogger. The 19 countries that have declined to attend according to the Committee are Afghanistan, China, Colombia, Cuba, Egypt, Iran, Iraq, Kazakhstan, Morocco, Pakistan, the Philippines, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Serbia, Sudan, Tunisia, Ukraine, Venezuela and Vietnam. Sam Zarifi of Amnesty International points out China has been arm-twisting behind the scenes to stop governments from attending the Nobel Prize ceremony, using a combination of political pressure and economic blackmail. The fact that, despite the pressure and threats, the Chinese could only cajole a small minority of countries, reflects the unacceptable nature of their demands. Governments and international institutions must continue to resist this type of bullying. Accountants and tax lawyers use a giant bag of tricks to help their clients pay less tax. When the IRS decides that they're just inside the legal bounds, then everything's great. But when the IRS decides they're just outside the legal bounds, now the person's supposedly a horrible criminal who deserves our hatred. Was Snipes a fraudster, or was he just trying to do what he thought the law allowed? It all depends on who you ask.Should we simplify the tax code? Obviously. But better yet, I want to get rid of the federal income tax and replace it with nothing. A federal government limited to its proper functions would cost so little compared to today's bloated, unconstitutional leviathan, that an income tax would be unnecessary.People can argue over whether non-payment of taxes is immoral, and whether people are avoiding or evading. As an internet forum, we encourage people to evade taxes. Did Snipes break the law? I have no idea. Did he behave immorally? No! What I do know very well is that the law is horrible, and the IRS is immoral. It is your patriotic duty to evade taxes, especially VAT, all the way! The European Commission today launched a wide public consultation on how the EU's Value Added Tax (VAT) system can be strengthened and improved, to the benefit of citizens, businesses and Member States. The aim is to give all stakeholders a chance to express their thoughts and views on the problems that currently exist with regard to hateful VAT, and how these can be addressed. The Commission will use the feedback from this consultation to decide the best approach in creating a more stable, robust and effective VAT system for the future. It is your patriotic duty to evade taxes, especially VAT, all the way!Taxation Commissioner Algirdas Semeta said: We need a VAT system for the 21st century: simple, modern and effective. VAT is paid by citizens, collected by businesses and is a main source of revenue for Member States, so everybody has an interest in this tax. First, it asks whether the fundamentals of the current hateful VAT system should be overhauled, and whether goods and services should be taxed in the Member State of origin or where they are sold. Next, the Green Paper looks at specific issues which have come into question over the years. If your country wants to join the European Union, you have to have a minimum VAT rate of 15% so that people won't take retail shopping vacations in your cities. Norway, Denmark, and Sweden win the dubious award of having the world's highest VAT rate at 25%. This floor and ceiling of VAT prices is a clear violation of antitrust laws, price fixing, pure and simple!
